Delectable Tuesday Blog Hop 2/1 - Snow Cream

Have you heard the news? There's a BIG snow storm headed our way!

Someone mentioned to me today that they were hoping to make snow cream. Snow cream?? I'd never heard of such thing. It seems I had a terrible childhood because I never experienced this treat. From everyone's comments and what I found online it must be good.

I haven't made this recipe, but it's from a trusted source. This recipe is from the great Paula Deen so it's got to be tasty.

With all the snow they are predicting we should have plenty to make this. I may just let the kids have at it and let them have fun. What better way to enjoy a blizzard than to eat it!

If you make this or you've made snow cream before, please let me know. I'd love to hear about your experience.

Snow Cream

8 cups snow, or shaved ice
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place snow or shaved ice into a large bowl. Pour condensed milk over and add vanilla. Mix to combine. Serve immediately in bowls.

  1. I didn't get it from Paula Deen, but we've made that exact recipe for years. We made it a lot when we lived in Denver. It's delicious. It tastes like the best vanilla ice cream/shake you've ever had.

  2. I haven't ever made snow cream...and I grew up with plenty of snow in New England. Maybe if we ever get enough snow here in the Pac Northwest I'll make some!

  10. I've only heard of it this winter on many blogs:) We don't have snow anywhere near our home so I probably won't be making it anytime soon. Sounds like a good way to put all of your abundant snow to good(fun) use!

  15. My Mamaw made this for me when I was a child one of the rare times that we got snow in Louisiana. It was sooo good. I'm in New England now so I really should try this sometime. They make Sugar on Snow up here with maple syrup. Thanks for hosting. I'm all linked up with my bananan muffins now. Candace

  16. I heard someone mention snow cream in a movie a long time ago and remember working out that it was an American thing, but I never got as far as looking up a recipe. I wish I had! That's so simple and sounds soooo good :)

Thank you for sharing it, when I try it out I'll let you know!

I'm also taking part in Hearth & Soul and that's how I found you.

  18. I love snow cream! I think it's a Southern thing as most people I know who grew up in snowy areas have never had it before. Here's the link to my experience, but I'll add it above too. http://bigdreamsforasimplelife.blogspot.com/2011/01/snow-cream.html

  19. No snow here in Scottsdale, AZ but I am sharing my recipe for Dairy Free Chocolate Ice Cream. It tastes amazing and you would never guess that there is no dairy in this ice cream!

  20. We don't get a lot of snow in West TN, but every time we did when I was a child, you could guarantee we'd have snow cream! Of course, we had to wait until the 2nd snow as the first one supposedly wasn't clean due to polution in the air. I think that's just tradition, 'cause we had to wait a long time between snows. We had some last year and then we've had more snow than usual this year, so we've already had it. Hopefully we get to have it again before spring. :D I have a similar recipe posted on my blog.
